The Del Ray Cakery made its debut during the 2010 Art on the Avenue festival, though its founder, Rebecca Underly, who is no stranger to serving up sweet treats to Del Ray residents.
Rebecca, a long time resident of Del Ray in Alexandria, VA, started her small confections company, Culinary Endeavors in 2003. Before cooking, Rebecca was a master teacher in Fairfax County where she taught second grade and mentored new teachers. Her second love after teaching was cooking, baking and making chocolates.
In 2001, she enrolled in culinary school at L’ Academie de Cuisine to explore her passion for food. There, she graduated with high honors from both the culinary and pastry arts programs.
She worked in several area restaurants before taking the position as Pastry Chef at The Blair House, the President’s guest house. There she created desserts, pastries and fine chocolates for presidents and heads of state for almost 4 years.
Today she’s excited to bring smiles to faces with her cake pops, cupcakes, cakes and other sweet treats and seasonal homemade, hand-rolled truffles.
