Frequently Asked Questions

How do I order? Please fill out the custom order form and Rebecca will get back to you about your request.

Do you deliver your cakes or cookies? We do not deliver, all treats must be picked up.

Do you make sheet cakes? No we do not. We strive to make each cake a work of art rather then simply decorating the top of a cake.

Do I need to make a deposit on any order? Because all orders are custom, a 50% non-refundable deposit needs to be made in order to hold your calendar date. If the order is being placed 1 week prior till your date, the bill must be paid in full with no refunds.

Do you offer gluten free or vegan options? Unfortunately at this time, we do not offer any gluten free or vegan cake or cookie options. If something is created, it will be offered on our insta or facebook page for purchase.

How far in advance do I need to place my order? It is recommended that you place an order 3-4 weeks in advance as the Cakery can only take a certain amount of orders a week. Once the weekend is completely booked, we are not able to accommodate any more orders. Last minute orders may be available if the day has not been fully booked. There is no product available without preordering unless advertised otherwise.

Can you put Disney characters on my cake or cookies? We are unable to put any licensed characters on a cake, cupcakes or cookies but if you supply a figurine we can create a beautiful setting for the characters. We do not sell any figurines.

How many dozen must I get in order to place an order? 2 dozen for any treat on sticks, cupcakes or mini cupcakes. 1 dozen cookies or cakesicles. 2 dozen truffles. 1 dozen pretzels.

Why do I need to fill our a request form? Filling this out will allow me to see if I have room on my calendar and if I fulfill your request. I will use this form to then contact you for more detail and tell you yes or no. Requests are reviewed and then a price is set. A 50% deposit will be due and be paid in order to hold your calendar spot. If not paid within 24 hours, I will not honor your request and your order will be cancelled. I am only able to take a limited amount of orders each week so my calendar fills up quickly.

How long do cookies generally stay fresh? All cookies come individually wrapped in a clear bag and can stay fresh for up to 2 weeks. If wanting cookies to come wrapped with a bow and in a box, an extra fee is added onto your final cost.

How long do cake pops and cocktail pops last? These treats should be refrigerated until your party. If wanting to save longer, bag tightly in an air tight container and refrigerate 2-3 weeks or freeze for 1-2 months. The cake is enrobed in chocolate thus closing out the air allowing them to last longer in the refrigerator.

About Rebecca

Owner/Pastry Chef

The Del Ray Cakery made its debut during the 2010 Art on the Avenue festival, though its founder, Rebecca Underly, who is no stranger to serving up sweet treats to Del Ray residents.  Rebecca, a long time resident of Del Ray in Alexandria, VA, started her small confections company, Culinary Endeavors in 2003. Before cooking, Rebecca was a master teacher in Fairfax County where she taught second grade and mentored new teachers. Her second love after teaching was cooking, baking and making chocolates.

In 2001, she enrolled in culinary school at L’ Academie de Cuisine to explore her passion for food. There, she graduated with high honors from both the culinary and pastry arts programs.

She worked in several area restaurants before taking the position as Pastry Chef at The Blair House, the President’s guest house. There she created desserts, pastries and fine chocolates for presidents and heads of state for almost 4 years.

Today she’s excited to bring smiles to faces with her cake pops, decorated cookies, cakes, small treats and seasonal homemade, hand-rolled truffles.
